Why does COD Mobile have a ranked playlist but Modern Warfare doesn’t?

Among the many aspects that COD Mobile got right in its worldwide launch, having a ranked playlist is near the top of that list. Not only does it feature a clear ranking system, it’s the first Call of Duty to have one at launch since Black Ops 3. Between then and now, we have not had a ranked playlist available in any major title at release.

According to Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare is going to continue that trend. Though the developers have stated that a ranked mode is coming, it will not be in the game at launch. This has caused a major uproar in the community, as a mobile game has more content than a full-fledged title.

Modern Warfare launching without a ranked playlist

Once the news of this broke, casual and professional players alike were seen on complaining on social media. It seems highly improbable that Infinity Ward, who has been working on Modern Warfare since 2016, can’t match COD Mobile‘s content, at least at launch.

However, it’s not just Infinity Ward; both Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games failed to feature ranked playlists at launch. In fact, it took at least a month for any COD title in the past three years to have ranked available to play.

COD Mobile is doing a lot of things right with microtransactions, rewards, and especially ranked. While Modern Warfare is set to feature more content than we’ve ever seen before, the fact that a ranked mode isn’t available at launch is disheartening, to say the least.

The hype COD Mobile has seen isn’t going unnoticed by the community. Many feel that Activision should change their current model for Call of Duty based on Mobile‘s success. Doug “Censor” Martin is among the many campaigning for this shift.

While it would take a lot of dollar signs for Activision to change course, COD Mobile is turning heads. Maybe, with enough success, we could see real change within Call of Duty for the first time in a long time.

TSM bench Jarvis, move Gotcha to Rainbow Six roster

North American esports organization Team SoloMid has made several roster changes before their next matches in Season 10 of North America’s Rainbow Six Siege Pro League. Sam “Jarvis” Jarvis will be benched from TSM’s roster. Aaron “Gotcha” Chung will move from his coaching role to the main roster as a player instead.

Gotcha as a player

“Hey all. Collectively, we have decided that Jarvis will remain on our bench and @GotchaR6 will be playing for the rest of the season,” wrote TSM in a statement. “We take roster changes very seriously and believe this change will lead to more success for the team moving forward. Please respect the decision and we thank you all for your continued support.”

Both players involved in the roster change joined on Sept 1. Tommy “Krusher” Samuel was released from the roster, while Owen “Pojoman” Mitura also moved from a coaching role to a player role. Aaron “Gotcha” Chung started his competitive career in 2017 on Vertical Gaming and played under organizations like Regime, Most Wanted Esports, Bitter Sweet, and Disrupt Gaming. His first coaching position began with Evil Geniuses in October of 2018.

TSM Rainbow Six

On the other hand, Sam “Jarvis” Jarvis began his career in 2016 on teams like OrglessGG, Most Wanted Esports, and Ominous. He also later played under organizations like FlipSid3 Tactics, SK Gaming, DarkZero Esports, and Leftovers.

With the new roster, Team SoloMid achieved a first-place finish at 2019’s DreamHack Montreal tournament on Sept 8. This qualified the roster for 2020’s Six Invitational, which is the fourth iteration of the major Rainbow Six tournament. However, the team tied their match on Playday 8 and lost on Playday 9. They then tied against the Susquehanna Soniqs on Playday 10.

TSM currently sits at 7th place out of 8 teams in the Pro League standings. Technically, the team is tied with 6th place Rogue, but TSM will have to win matches. If they end the season in 7 – 8th, they will be sent to Relegation against the top two Challenger League teams.
