Did Call of Duty League team names already leak?

As Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s release grows nearer, so does the launch of the inaugural season for the Call of Duty League. For the past few weeks, we’ve been getting various roster announcements from a few CDL teams. Although, many still have yet to make any kind of announcement, roster signings or otherwise. However, like most secrets in the gaming industry, nothing stays private for long. Thanks to leaks surfacing from various trademark and domain registrations, we may have an insight as to what several of the CDL teams will be branded as.

Some of the rumored Call of Duty team names and logos

With some of the CDL teams being announced way back in June and July, it’s no surprise they already have branding ideas. While some of the newer teams may not have anything concrete, it appears others do.

Any franchise in the CDL needs to have multiple trademarks, domains, etc. Things such as logos, websites, and team names all need to be filed accordingly so they are able to sell merchandise and operate effectively. It’s in these filings that we find the leaks to their branding.

So far, seemingly seven-to-eight team names and logos have been found online. Whether it be from companies owning certain domains or trademarks being filed, these are official leaks. However, it’s commonplace for franchises to own several identities so they can pick which one suits their needs best.

Here are all of the rumored CDL team names:

  • Toronto Ultra
  • Los Angeles Guerrillas
  • London Ravens
  • Dallas Empire
  • Florida Mutineers
  • Paris Legion
  • Los Angeles OpTic
  • New York Subliners

We have logos for some of these teams as well, which were filed as trademarks in their respective countries.

Toronto Ultra

It’s unclear how accurate some of these logos really are. However, they were all filed as trademarks with the intent to brand themselves as a gaming entity. While it’s totally plausible some organizations could change course, some of these names and logos should come to fruition.

There are still a few teams we’ve heard no announcements from (L.A., Florida, Dallas), but most teams should reveal something before the launch of Modern Warfare. London has a branding-related announcement planned for Oct. 15. Toronto has even announced that they will hold a pre-launch party on Oct. 24, and it’s expected they will announce something CDL-related.

Throughout the next couple of weeks, there should be more roster announcements from CDL organizations. Make sure to keep up with Daily Esports so you don’t miss any news!

A competitive wish list for Modern Warfare’s multiplayer

Before every Call of Duty launches, there’s always a level of desire from the community. Whether it be wanting certain maps or specific weapons or different customization options, people always want something from the developers. This community, the casual player base, makes up the majority of the Call of Duty lobbies. The same will no doubt go for Modern Warfare. However, there is another player base that has its own wants and desires: the competitive community.

What competitive players want in Modern Warfare

Of course, every player that participates in competitive play will want something different. Still, there is usually a general consensus every year among most players regarding certain aspects. While we still have to wait for the competitive ruleset to come out, most hardcore players know what they want.

For starters, some kind of ranked playlist is always a top desire for competitive players. While public matches are fun most of the time, some days a more advanced playlist is the way to go. In this ranked mode, the competitive rules, maps, and modes would be used. Players would match up against others around their skill level and try to climb the ranking ladder.

Black Ops 2 had perhaps the best ranked playlist in Call of Duty’s history

Most in the community agree that Black Ops 2‘s League Play was the best ranked mode. However, players will just be happy with a ranked playlist that doesn’t come out 5 months after the game has launched.

Next up on the wish list is custom games support. If you participate in online competitive matches, you know that custom games must be working in order to play. Little things like the ability to save custom game modes and integrated GameBattles are things we saw in the past that weren’t in Black Ops 4. For Modern Warfare, the competitive community would love to see things of that nature make a return.

Something a little smaller that is definitely doable is the implementation of CDL-themed calling cards, emblems, cosmetic items, etc. The Call of Duty League is set to begin early 2020. What better way to kick it off than with custom themed cosmetic items? WWII had some weapon camos, as did Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare.

There are definitely other things that competitive players want, but this list is nearly universal. Let us know what you want in competitive play, and keep up with Daily Esports for all COD coverage!
