Huawei reveals "HarmonyOS", it's alternative to Android

Huawei's long-rumored Android alternative, Hongmeng, is finally official today. Chinese tech giant Richard Yu, CEO, unveiled HarmonyOS at the Huawei Developer Conference #HDC2019 in Dongguan on Friday, revealing that the software is primarily aimed at IoT products (such as smart displays, wearables, smart speakers and in-car devices) instead of smartphones. 

Yu says that when Huawei can no longer access Google's Android ecosystem, the company can deploy HarmonyOS "at any time." Until then, Huawei will continue to support Android.

according to Mr. Yu, who said it will also be completely open-source platform. "You can develop your apps once, then flexibly deploy them across a range of devices," he said.

1. For the first time, #HarmonyOS will have a verified TEE (Trusted Execution Environment). Improving connected security across multiple smart devices in a connected all-scenario world #HDC2019.
2. HarmonyOS is built with a deterministic latency engine that gives a smooth interactive experience. That means latency is at a minimum; bringing a fluid interactive experience to the maximum.
3. In addition to being a lightweight system, Huawei says HarmonyOS will offer some performance boosts. For one, it'll feature a "Deterministic Latency Engine" that can better allocate system resources using real-time analysis and forecasting.
4. Developers will be able to port their Android apps over to HarmonyOS using Huawei's ARK compiler.
5. Honor Smart Screen will be the first product running HarmonyOS, and the company intends to continue using Android for the time being. Comments from Huawei’s consumer CEO noting that the company’s situation with Android is still “unclear” were also added.
